Walnut Ridge, Ark. – After winning a mere two American Midwest Conference games a season ago, the Williams Baptist College Eagles have turned it around and won nine in 2012-2013, allowing them to finish fourth in the conference.
The fourth place finish has earned WBC the opportunity to host the opening round of the tournament. This is an accomplishment that has not happened since 2005 for the Eagles.
“One of our goals for the season was to host a playoff game and it means a lot to the players and staff to obtain that goal,” said Head Coach Josh Austin.
Williams will play the Owls from William Woods University on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m., in WBC’s Southerland-Mabee Center.
“Anytime we can play in front of our home fans, it gives an energy boost. Hopefully, we can win the first game and march on,” added Austin.
The Eagles finish the regular season with a record of 18-11 overall and 9-7 in the AMC. They improved their win total by 10 games from a season ago. Also, the 18 wins ties the record of number of wins in a season by a WBC team since the school became a four year institution.
Admission prices are set by the AMC and will be five dollars for adults and two dollars for children under 12 years old. Due to conference restrictions, Williams is unable to accept Arkansas Activity Association or Eagle Booster Club passes for tournament contests.
