Senior Emelie Westrup sits atop the leaderboard of the 11th Annual South Alabama Women’s Invitational after firing an opening-round one-over par 73 on Monday at Azalea City Golf Course. UALR sits in a tie for second place overall with a combined opening-round score of 310 (+22), four shots back of host and leader South Alabama.
Fellow Sun Belt member ULM is tied with UALR at 22-over par after one day of competition. Southern Miss and McNeese State sit in a tie for fourth place at 313 (+25).
Senior Malin Lundberg and junior Brynn Donovan are tied for tenth over all after each shot five-over par 77 rounds on Monday. Junior Katie Reid finished at 11-over par 83, while sophomore Sofia Berglund shot an opening round 84 (+12).
South Alabama’s Kristen Golightly and ULM’s Kathy Sterling and Valentine Loge all fired opening-round scores of 74 (+2) on Monday, leaving them a stroke back of Westrup. Four players, including USA’s Ingrid Hagen and Ashleigh Ryals, sit in a four-way tie for fifth place after shooting three-over par 75 in the opening round.
Play will resume at Azalea City Golf Club with the final round on Tuesday set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
