Golden Lions Scalp Braves

Lorman, MS- Tonight in SWAC basketball action the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions traveled to Lorman, MS to take on the Braves of Alcorn State. The Golden Lions were looking for redemption hoping to split this first road trip of conference play.

It took the Golden Lions the whole first half to settle down and adjust to the tempo of the game. The Braves took a nine point lead in to the half.

UAPB came out after the intermission and outscored Alcorn 39-21 to leave the reservation with a 62- 52 victory. 

“I thought the guys showed a lot of perseverance, and it showed what type of team we really are. We crashed the boards and rebounded well. We hit all of our team goals tonight”, said head coach George Ivory.

UAPB dominated the boards all night out rebounded the Braves 48- 26, and holding the Braves to only three offensive rebounds.

Lazabian Jackson led the charge for the Golden Lions 17 points. Davon Haynes put in 16 points and was eight-of-eleven from the free throw line. Terrell Kennedy turned in a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Mitchell Anderson grabbed 12 rebounds and chipped in eight points.

Anthony Nieves, of Alcorn State, led all scorers with 23 points on eight-of-nineteen shooting.

As a team the Golden Lions shot 70 percent from the charity stripe on the night.

The Golden Lions return home January 19th as they play host to Texas Southern for Coaches versus Cancer Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM; all fans are asked to tennis shoes in support of this initiative.
