Pine Bluff, AR- In SWAC basketball Action at the H.O. Clemmons Arena, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions defeated the Panthers of Prairie View A&M University, 55-51 for Faculty and Staff Appreciation/ Honors night.
UAPB would start off to quick four zero run and would push the lead to seven within the first three minutes of the ball game, 9-2. Prairie View would score five unanswered points to close the gap early; but the lead would swell back to nine on fast break dunk by freshman guard Trent Whiting, with 9:03 left in the in the first half.
The Golden Lions would take a two point lead to locker room for the break. During the intermission Chancellor Calvin Johnson and Director of Athletics Lonza Hardy, along with several members form UAPB faculty and staff honored student-athletes, cheerleaders, and band members for their outstanding achievements in the classroom.
UAPB started the second half off to fever pitch running out to nine point lead with 18:14 left to play. The Panther s fought back to push their first lead of the ball game to six points, 37-43, but couldn’t put the Golden Lions away; as UAPB would wrap up their fifth conference win.
Davon Haynes would lead the way for the Golden Lions with 13 points, on six-of-eleven shooting and grabbing 15 rebounds. Lazabian Jackson would register 11 points, while Terrell Kennedy knocked down 10.
Jourdan DeMuynck, of Prairie View had 15 points and 10 rebounds while, Ryan Gesiakowski added 12.
The Golden Lions will be on the road for the next two weeks with stops in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama; before returning home on February 9th to face Southern University on ESPNU.
