Lyon College Baseball Team Sweeps CCC Tripleheader

A last-minute scheduled tripleheader turned into a offensive show for the Lyon College baseball team as Colby Rogers slapped five doubles and drove in six runs as the Scots produced 26 runs on 31 hits as they swept the three games from Central Christian College (Kan.), 6-4, 10-6 and 10-2, at Scots Field on Saturday.

Lyon, which improved to 11-3 on the season going into a nine-day break, has recorded 10 wins in its last 11 games. The Scots will return to action on Monday, March 4, when they begin their Spring Break trip at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.

It was a strong three-game set for the Scots against the Tigers, as Lyon averaged more than eight runs and 10 hits in the three games.

Lyon College 6, Central Christian 4 – Game 1

Lyon leftfielder Kris Kohlstedt went 2-for-3 from his lead-off position in the lineup, leading the Scots to an eight-hit attack in a 6-4 win over Central Christian.

Seven different Scots recorded hits in the contest. First baseman Bryan Lynn went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in, shortstop Will Lindsey tagged a double and scored a run, finishing 1-for-4. Other Lyon players picking up hits included Colby Rogers, Blake Rogers, Roger Glaude and Caleb Durant.

Drew Schiesser paced the Tigers with a 2-for-3 outing, while Joshua Mejia also went 2-for-3, with a pair of runs scored and a RBI.

Brandon Haller improved to 3-0 on the year as he went the distance on the mound for the Scots. He allowed four runs on seven hits, with three strikeouts.

Douglass Gove was tagged with the loss for CCC. He pitched the first 5.1 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits, with a pair of walks and six strikeouts.

Lyon College 10, Central Christian 6 – Game 2

The Scots stepped up their offensive performance in Game 2 of the series, pounding out 12 hits, including six doubles and a home run, in a 10-6 victory.

Lyon shortstop Mark Armenteros led a strong offensive performance with a 2-for-3 outing, connecting with a home run and a double, while driving in three runs and scoring two more. Colby Rogers doubled twice in a 2-for-3 game at the dish. He pushed three runs across the plate, scoring once. Blake Rogers also had a pair of hits, one of them being a double.

Glaude pushed in three runs with a 1-for-3 effort. He scored a run and connected with a double. Colin Fluesmeier doubled, while Joseph Sitzman, Wesley Roberson, Jim Gossett and Colt Harmon each chipped in singles.

Talen Roepcke, J.P. Johnson and John Almogabar combined to record the win on the hill. Roepcke got the start and improved his season record to 3-0. He worked the first five frames, allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and a walk. Johnson worked the next 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on one hit, with three walks. Almogabar finished the game, striking out one.

Lyon College 10, Central Baptist 2 – Game 3

Ben Neyen (2-1) threw a complete-game seven hitter to pick up the win for Lyon, while Colby Rogers went 3-for-4, with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored in a dominating 10-2 victory in Game 3.

Neyen fanned 10 batters and only allowed one earned run. He walked three in seven innings.

Four different Lyon batters produced multiple-hit games, with the team producing a triple and four doubles in the victory. Gossett went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, Blake Rogers went 2-for-4, doubling and driving in a pair of runs. Lindsey had a 2-for-3 effort, with a run scored and a run batted in.

Robertson tagged a triple, scoring twice and driving in a run, Lynn also added a hit, while plating twice and pushing a run in.
