MAGNOLIA, Ark. – On the heels of a 4-1 week that featured a doubleheader sweep of Wiley College and a series win against Southeastern Oklahoma, the Southern Arkansas baseball team remains nationally-ranked in the three NCAA Division II baseball polls that were released on Monday.
The Muleriders (25-11, 16-5 GAC), who did not allow a single run in their doubleheader sweep of Wiley in mid-week action, ended the week with a 2-1 series win on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma. The solid week has the Muleriders ranked as high as No. 15 according to the D2baseball News Poll. Last week, the D2baseball poll had the Muleriders ranked No. 18.
In the other national polls, the Muleriders remain the No.16 team in the College Baseball Lineup poll, but the top team in the GAC dropped nine spots from No. 17 to No. 26 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Poll will not be released until Tuesday, April 2nd.
In the series against Southeastern Oklahoma, the Muleriders dropped the first game of the series, but bounced back to win the next two games to capture their seventh-straight conference series. In the series finale, Jon Mark Abbey tossed a six-hit shutout to ensure the series victory.
In the upcoming week, the Muleriders will play host to NAIA-power LSU-Shreveport on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. For the weekend, the Muleriders will remain at home as they will welcome in East Central.
The series with East Central is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5th.
