CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College men’s basketball team fell just short on Saturday, falling to Rhodes College 57-55 in Southern Athletic Association action at Grove Gymnasium.
The visiting first-place Lynx (9-6, 4-0), turned a 33-25 halftime lead into a 13-point lead with 18:44 left in the game. The Warriors (5-10, 0-4) chipped away throughout the half and trailed 56-55 after a Drew Nikolovski three-point play with a minute left. With 14 seconds left, Rhodes guard Andrew Galow went 1-for-2 at the free throw line, giving Hendrix the final possession. Jaren Riley’s jumper with two seconds left was off the mark, allowing the Lynx to escape with the two-point victory.
For the game, Hendrix shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the field, 3-of-13 from outside and 12-of-16 at the free throw line. Rhodes shot 43 percent (22-of-51) overall, 4-of-13 from beyond the arc and 9-of-14 at the charity stripe. The Warriors held a 34-31 edge in rebounding.
Junior forward Colton Primm paced the Warriors with 18 points to go with eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Luke Vance had 12 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and four blocks and senior guard Jaren Riley added 12 points and three assists.
Galow led the Lynx with 25 points. Ryan Van Hoeck came off the bench to score nine points and Geoff Livsey had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Hendrix will return to action for a home conference game against Birmingham-Southern College on Friday night.
