Golden Lions Hold Off Tigers

Pine Bluff, AR- In basketball action tonight at the H.O. Clemmons Arena; two of the top teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference went head to head, as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff played host to the Tigers of Texas Southern.

The Golden Lions Jumped out to a four-to- zero run to start the game and was able to hold the lead for most of the first half; as the Tigers took a one point edge into the locker room for halftime. 

After the intermission, the Golden Lions were able to regain the lead at the 18 minute mark, 36-33. The lead would flip flop three times in the second half, until UAPB was able take the lead for good on three pointer by Tevin Hammonds within under a minute to go the second half. Daniel Broughton would sink his only two free throws of the night, with just seconds left on the clock, to give the game its final score of 66-63.

Broughton would lead all scorers with 20 points, on nine-of-twelve shooting. Lazabian Jackson added 14 points, while Davon Haynes and Terrell Kennedy chipped in 11 points, respectively. The Golden Lions controlled the boards tonight, out rebounding the Tigers 36-32.

Omar Strong led the charge for TSU with 18 points, while Lawrence Johnson- Danner posted 11 points.

Next up for the Golden Lions is Monday night battle against the Panthers of Texas Southern. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM. This is also faculty and staff appreciation/ honors day.
