JACKSON, Miss. – The Hendrix College men’s basketball team completed the season sweep of Millsaps College with a 72-63 victory at the HangarDome on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Warriors improve to 7-14 overall and 2-8 in Southern Athletic Association play, while the Majors fall to 4-17 and 2-8.
Trailing 15-14 at the 11:23 mark in the first period, Hendrix outscored Millsaps 22-8 the rest of the half, taking a 36-23 lead into the break. The Warriors opened the second half on an 11-2 run, pushing their lead to 47-25 with 14:47 to play.
The host Majors began to chipping away at the lead with a 20-5 run of their run, making the contest 50-45 with 7:59 remaining. Hendrix held off the onslaught, expanding their lead back to 15 points in the final minute.
For the game, the Warriors shot 47 percent (23-of-49) from the field, 6-of-14 from outside and a season-best 91 percent (20-of-22) at the free throw line. The Majors shot 34 percent (20-of-59) overall, 8-ofo-18 from three-point range and 15-of-20 at the stripe. Hendrix had a big 41-26 advantage in rebounds.
Sophomore forward Luke Vance tied his career-high with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with nine rebounds to lead the Warriors. Sophomore guard Alec Conard hit four long-range shots, en route to 14 points off the bench. Senior guard Jaren Riley added 12 points and junior forward Colton Primm had 11 points and seven boards. Freshman guard Jordan Taulton dished out four assists and senior center Dayton Sheridan had seven rebounds.
Nick Cortese led the Majors with 21 points and five rebounds. Jackson Griffon scored 12 points and Tully Gilligan netted 11 points and had nine assists.
Hendrix will finish the regular season with a four-game homestand beginning with Oglethorpe University on Friday night.
